The lost year. Sam won the inagural title with an unknown score against an unknown opponent.
The 2016 Superb Owl matchup was between the two top regular season teams. Randy, known as Cubtopia at the time, finished 9-4 in the regular season and was the hottest team in the league coming into the playoffs on a 4 game winning streak. Randy also set the scoring record which still stands to this day with 1855.28 points during the 13 game regular season. He took on Jeff, The Bearded Clams, who also had a record of 9-4 but with a pretty average 1497.2 points during the season.
The Superb Owl match was a comfortable 17 point victory for Jeff, 134.92-117.86 in what was a flip of Yahoo's projected scoring. The Superb Owl MVP was Green Bay's own Jordy Nelson. Jordy put up 9 catches(At full PPR at the time) for 154 yards and 2 Touchdowns as the Packers beat the Vikings 38-25 on Christmas Eve day.
Bill and his son Chris took home their first title as a part of Ripkowski's Angels in season 3, 2017. The Angels ended the regular season with the only tie in the history of SEWIFFL while also making a league high 58 roster moves during the regular season. Despite the revolving general manager's door, Bill finished 8-4-1 and was prepared for a deep playoff run.
Bill took out Dan and Zach on his way to the Superb Owl game where he met #2 seed Chris(no relation to Bill), MakeMyTeamGreatAgain. The Superb Owl game was a low scoring one, ending 115.02-100.22 in favor of Ripkowski's Angels. The savior of the day was one Dion Lewis who took home the MVP award with 24 rushes for 129 yards as well as 5 receptions for 24 yards and 2 total TDs. A huge performance in the biggest game of the year!
2018 we all bore witness to possibly the most dominant playoff run in league history. Ray Rice Boxing Club, run by Ben, finished the regular season with a respectable 8-5 record, which was good enough for a middle seed in the playoffs. Ben's closest playoff matchup was his 23 point vitory in the title game.
In that game he ran into Jeff, who was making his 2nd Superb Owl appearance in 3 years. Jeff snuck into the playoffs and had to claw his way to the title game. Ben got a huge 29 point performance from the player formerly known as Robbie Anderson(Who is apparently Robbie Chosen now?) In a rare occurance, the MVP of this matchup goes to Packers' legend Aaron Rodgers. Had he not put up 42.88 fantasy points this game would've looked like a crime scene. Rodgers got into a shootout with his future team and ended up 37-55 for 442 yards and 2 Passing TDs. On top of that he rushed 5 times for 32 yards and 2 TDs.
2019 was an interesting regular season and playoff run. The now retired SEWIFFL Hall of Famer Doc had one of the greatest regular seasons in league history finishing 11-2 but couldn't parlay that success into playoff success when he lost his first playoff game by 0.14 points to Chris, #MMTGA. Chris had a respectable 8-5 regular season record and went on to sneak into the Superb Owl game, winning his matchup prior to Doc by 0.62 points.
Sam finished the regular season also at 8-5, but the #2 seed via tiebreaker. In his playoff matchup he dominated winning by over 40 points. The Superb Owl matchup went Sam's way 136.52-117.86. Interestingly enough the 117.86 score hit Chris's projected score exactly. Mark Andrews was key to Wilfork For Food's victory, putting up 6 catches for 93 yards and 2 TDs in a 31-15 victory for Baltimore over their rival Cleveland Browns.
2020 was the first year of the Fleaflicker era, as well as the first COVID season. The website change didn't slow down one of the more successful teams SEWIFFL has seen, Andy's Joe Buck Yourself. A dominant 11-2 regular season led to a #1 seed and a relatively easy road to the Superb Owl matchup.
There Andy ran into Sam, now running Trash Pandas. Sam had an excellent 9-4 regular season and ran right through his first two playoff matchups, the closest being a 14 point victory in the brother v brother semi-final match. The Superb Owl ended up being our closest, Sam took home his 3rd title besting Andy by a score of 106.32-103.02, with Andy falling just short of a Sunday night comeback. David Johnson was the MVP with 128 yards and 1 TD on the ground to go with 3 catches for 11 yards and a TD through the air.
The 2021 season was another strong regular season performance from Zach, The Ham Wallets at the time. He finished 10-4 in the regular season, winning his last 4 matchups. Zach went on to blowout both of his playoff opponents starting with Chris by 40 points.
2021 was also the first Superb Owl appearance for Dan, SEWIFFL Commish and owner of Swift Hill United FC. SHUFC snuck into the playoffs as the 6 seed and had a dominant victory over Randy in round 1 and held onto a victory over Andy in the Semis, only to get completely destroyed in the title game 153.62-95.44. The Superb Owl was secured for Zach by the end of the 3pm games on Sunday. The clear MVP was Rashaad Penny who put up 31.5 points via 170 yards and 2 TDs.
2022 was tanother solid year from Zach. With a rebranded team, C-Kupp Tds, but the same ol success. Zach finished the regular season at 10-4 and another #1 seed. Zach went on to repeat the abuse he put on SHUFC in the 2021 championship game with a 60 point victory in the semis.
The finals included a matchup against Jeff, who made a triumphant return to Superb Owl game glory. Jeff finished 8-6 and a #3 seed winning his first playoff matchup by 16 and a huge blowout win to reach the title game. The title game was thrown into a bit of chaos when Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field early in the Monday Night game. Team owners Zach and Jeff met with SEWIFFL officials to determine the best course of action for the abandoned game. If memory serves correctly Zach took into account the current score and remaining players, Josh Allen and Tee Higgins and conceded defeat to Jeff. MVP of the matchup was Christian McCaffery who put up 28.3 on 121 yards rushing as well as 72 yards receiving and 1 total TD.
The Stat Correction Bowl.
This year's Superb Owl playoff was marred by controversy as Sleeper seemingly fumbled the bag with a semi-final stat correction that seemed to send Sam to the Superb Owl but in actuality the correction was wrong and Andy ended up making the big game.
It was all for nought, however, as Andy fell short against Chris 124.42-103.74. Surprise hero Jerome Ford, RB Cleveland, stole the show for Rated Eks as he ripped off 25 fantasy points. Andy's hero was Harrison Butker, who took advantage of a 6-6 FG day for 25+ fantasy points as well. Ultimately the rest of Andy's team let him down, with below average days, while Chris's squad his their projections and brought home the title. A lesson that you don't always need the blow up game, but you have to avoid the bust games.
Dynasty: Established
Superb Owl X was an absolute nailbiter. One for the ages. It was a game of QB-WR Stack vs QB-WR Stack. For Sam: Justin Herbert and rookie sensation Ladd McConkey up against Cool Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase. Adding King Henry to the Chargers stack was overwhelming for the Trash Pandas. Their defense, Indy, almost let them down putting up -1 points. A big game from Trey McBride wasn't enough to balance out De'Von Achane's dud as Sam snuck by for his fourth title, the first SEWIFFL Gold Championship, awarded to titles 4 and beyond.
