Week 1 Preview

Gentlemen, the dark times of Spring and Summer have passed. We have made it through to fall. And by making it through to fall we have made it to Fantasy Football season! This season kicks off down under with Wednesday Night Football from Australia. That means our season kicks off on tonight, Wednesday night!

Bear with me, as I'm still trying to figure out how to best present some of these new stats I've generated this offseason. I'll happily take any feedback or constructive criticism you have to offer. I will say that the "Last 5" stat will always read from the owner on the left. Its just how the formula works, basically presenting for "Owner 1" which is on the left. Until Week 12 any matchup Mike is involved with obviously won't have any sexy stats associated, since the first time he has a matchup history will be the first time he rematches.

I saw some post online, so take this with a grain of salt because I can't find it, that said something like 66% of fantasy teams that made their playoffs last season won in Week 1. I'm pretty sure it was from Sleeper themselves. So I'm not saying this is a must win matchup, but your odds of winning a championship certainly increase starting the season 1-0.

The SEWIFFL Game of the Week. Easily the most balanced record of this week's matchups, and one of the "Battle for Hartford" matchups we'll see this season. Because what really means more than being the winner of a fantasy football matchup? Winning a fantasy football matchup against someone you went to school with. Loser has to blind bid $20 on the DAWGS in Calcutta this season*.

Bill comes in seeking to snap a 5 game losing streak against the commissioner. Bill is fresh off his best solo season, finishing 3rd in the regular season before a untimely playoff ejection vs George in the first round. Dan's playoff push also ended in his first matchup, although Sam was the one doing the eliminating then.

It's not shocking Andy holds a dominant record against George, and that's not a shot against George, its more telling of how good Andy has been in regular seasons. His kryptonite has been getting through a postseason in such dominant fashion. George is looking to build on his own best SEWIFFL season. He's changed his draft strategy, namely no Zay Flowers and not carrying 3 QBs. We'll see if it pays off for him in Week 1.

By far the week 1 matchup with the most history behind it. 15 times these franchises have met and Sam has the slight edge. As of late, however, Randy has kept things tilted in his favor. Logic says Sam is the championship favorite this season, we'll see if Randy can send him scrambling with a week 1 loss.

Jeff has bested Ryan pretty handily in their 5 matchups. That said you can throw out the latest meeting's results. Ryan's season was effectively over at that point. New season, new players, new chances to take out a former champion.

Jim vs Mike

Mike's maiden matchup in SEWIFFL will be made against Jim. Both are looking to get off to a good start: Jim to his season after making the playoffs last season and Mike to his SEWIFFL career. I don't really think the saying "you only get one chance to make a first impression" applies here, but you do only get one chance to win your week one matchup.

Again. I'm still debating how to do Write Ups this season. My current consideration is a shorter matchup preview style like this. Lay out who is playing who, current records once they're available, and any sort of fallout that can come from the matchups, or scenarios for playoff clinching, etc. I would see those coming on Thursdays, and a weekly roundup being posted on Tuesdays. We'll see how well that schedule is stuck to.
