We've made it through Week 2. I hope you're all more in tact than the players we watched on TV Sunday. The injury carts racked up more yards than Jeremiyah Love. Caleb Williams, Jayden Reed, Jayden Daniels, and Alec Pierce were all carted off with injuries of varying severity. Daniels looks like he could be destined for surgery with his second dislocated elbow, Caleb Williams caught what looked like a very painful hamstring injury, (Commissioner's note: This intro was written late Sunday night after SNF) CALEB WILLIAMS IS ONE OF THE MOST DRAMATIC HUMAN BEINGS ON EARTH AND I GENUINELY THOUGHT HE MIGHT HAVE HIS LEG AMPUTATED THE WAY HE WAS ACTING and Jayden Reed is spending the night in a New Jersey hospital with a neck injury. An absolute mess that will make roster depth and waiver wire play that much more important.
Grab your athletic tape, take an ibuprofen, and elevate those sore joints, its time for the Write Up.
Huge scores across the entire lineup made this a runaway victor for Randy. He was led by Amon-Ra St Brown's 30 point performance in a loss to Buffalo on Thursday night. Randy's TE duo of Trey McBride and Sam LaPorta put up 14 points a piece. The Special Teams put a bow on the victory for Randy, 16.7 points from Harrison Butker and a neat 20 points from the Vikings D/ST. On the flip side Chris got his own 20 burger from James Cook on Thursday Night. The Patriots provided their own 23 point performance in a dominant victory over Pittsburgh, limiting them to just 3 points. Chris adds his name to the list of those victimized by the Patriots RB room, getting 3.1 points from Rhamondre Stevenson.
Jaxson Dart's early injury spelled the end of any comeback hope for Ryan. The Giants' offensive line should be investigated as the hit that knocked Dart out was a defensive block party in the backfield. It was nothing but lackluster performances across the board for Team Cotch, with the only double digit players being Christian Watson, whose day was salvaged by a TD, and Will Reichard who was all of the scoring for the Vikings. Ja'Marr Chase was the big winner for this matchup, 23 points on 7-75-2. Chris Olave also showed out in an upset victory over Baltimore, going 8 catches for 86 yards and a tud. Colston Loveland, however, continues to be absent from work, apparently.
This was one of a handful of games impacted by injuries, but if we're being truly honest with ourselves Caleb Williams was not having a great game prior to the injury. An ugly defensive slopfest in Chicago led to a 7 point performance from the Bears QB. Dan's duo of keepers in Jahmyr Gibbs and CeeDee Lamb handled the bulk of the scoring, putting up 20.3 and 31.3 respectively. Kenneth Walker again had an excellent game for the Chiefs, although he didn't find the end zone this time, finishing with 20.8 points to lead Andy's squad. Stefon Diggs hit paydirt twice in a very efficient 5-47-2 line for 19.2 points. Rounding out the big scoring was Chase McLaughlin, who kicked 4 field goals, including 2 from 50+ for 17.6 points. Monday night was a victory lap for Andy, as Cam Skattebo added more notches in his CTE belt to the tune of 7.5 points.
The only really close game this week. Jaxon Smith-Njigba seems to be on track for another OPOY award this season, this week it was a massive 9 for 155 and 3TDs for 38 fantasy points with a backup QB. In more of the same old story, Derrick Henry scored 16.2 points and found the endzone. On the winning side, Jeff found huge success with his 49ers triple stack. Purdy-McCaffrey-Kittle put up 65 points. DeVonta Smith had a really nice day, scoring 22.7 points on 10 catches for 117 and 1 TD. If you want to point to one single play that lost Bill this game it was Harrison Mevis missing the FG before halftime on Monday night. If he hits that 43 yarder we're looking at a 5.3 point swing in Bill's score line. Tough luck on that one.
Not that its unexpected, but Josh Allen is the only reason this match was as comfortable a win as it was for Sam. The former MVP blew up on Thursday night for 40.82 points, contributing to 5 total TDs. Garrett Wilson had a tidy 14.2 points in an ugly game against Green Bay. On the negative side for Sam, Marvin Harrison seems to not even be an afterthought for the Cardinals. Just 1 target in Week 2. Jim got a big game out of Dak Prescott who finished just shy of 30 points, throwing for 4 TDs. Anemic NFL North offenses cost Jim big time. Tucker Kraft and Justin Jefferson combined for 9.5 points. For Jim's sake, I hope this is the exception rather than the rule going forward.
George apparently decided the kind welcome to the league was over for Mike. Despite less than ideal games from Trevor Lawrence, George Pickens, and a gamble that didn't pay off in starting Brock Bowers, George comfortably took home the W this week. Huge games from Jonathan Taylor, who had 27.2 points, and a 35.5 point bomb from Davante Adams on Monday Night were enough to balance out the duds. Mike will want to forget this one. The only bright spots were Tetaroia McMillan who had 12.6 points, and Travis Kelce and his 20.6 points on Sunday Night.
Last week we were searching for the team with the most total TDs. This one was a bit of a blowout. Jeff is our winner with 10 total TDs. A lot of times you'd expect someone to coast on a single player's big week like a 5 TD day from a QB, not this week. Jeff's 10 TDs were spread across 7 players. Congrats, Jeff!
I'm not gonna get too creative this week, just stealing from last year. We're playing the Blackjack Bonus this week. The player with the score closest to 21.00 without going over takes home the crispy Abe Lincoln. There's no good way to tiebreak this one, so if we have a tie it will be randomized.
Given that there was a bunch of blowouts this week, its no surprise there was only 1 Start/Sit decision that could've flipped a result. Although in practice it came down to a missed 43 yard field goal, Bill's QB selection also brought him the L this week. Starting Tyler Shough instead of Bo Nix would've taking Bill from a 3.76 point loss to a 4.5 point win. This is another one where its tough to really point and go "What were you thinking?!?!" because Shough is still decidedly unproven and had a tough matchup against Baltimore.
SEWIFFL Game of the Week. Someone has to bounce back from a rough start!
No SEWIFFL matchup history. Mike looks to bounce back after his first career defeat. Sam seeks to put himself in a powerful spot for the 1/4(ish) mark of the regular season.
One of my new favorite things is NFL memes on reddit. I'm a child, but I figure you might get a laugh or two out of them. Enjoy a few of my favorites from the last month or so.
There you have it. Another week of fantasy football to look forward to. Be sure to get your FAAB bids in and don't give up, there's a lot of season left to play! May your wins be easy and your ACLs intact. Best of luck this week, lads.
