Thank you all for a ninth fantastic season of fantasy football in SEWIFFL. Despite my team falling directly on their collective face I had a blast once again.
Some highlights of the year:
Chris taking home his first Superb Owl title after some questionable stat correction and un-correction by Sleeper.
Bill with one of the greatest free agency pickups in fantasy football history picking up Puka Nacua. From the free agent pile after week 1 to WR4. Its the pickup every fantasy manager dreams of.
Andy battling his way to the final despite an injury plague.
Ben with a dominant regular season led by former Mr. Irrelevant and new draft pick of the year Brock Purdy.
The fall and rise and fall again of Jeff's Bearded Clams squad. An up and down season for a defending champ always makes for entertaining fantasy football.
Randy's weekly bonus record.
I could go on for days with highlights but for the sake of ease of reading and my brain I'll stop there.
Our first year of FAAB and of extra game against the median is complete. I enjoyed both changes and expect them to become permanent starting next year with Season X. They weren't without their growing pains. I'd bet Bill would be a bit more conservative with his bidding early in the year and there's a handful of owners that spent FAAB like they believed they were getting a return on what was leftover. Extra game against the median didn't change much in terms of standings. To quote Jim "My son saw my record early in the year and asked how I was so bad that I lost 4 games 2 weeks into the year."
Take a minute to check out the 2023 SEWIFFL Awards. There's 9 total awards, admittedly I closed out of my excel sheet while counting up TE points and don't feel like doing it over, so for now that total will remain a mystery.
That's pretty much all there is to it. I had a blast this year, I've had fun putting this website together to keep a league history. I'll be doing some slow burn projects like updating records and updating things here and there. Chris's name is on the trophy, monies have been paid out. I'm going to figure out something fun to do for the 10th anniversary of the league next year. Keep an eye out for that. In spring I'll send out a bit of an offseason meeting of sorts to see if we want to adjust any rules. The 2024 draft is tentatively scheduled for August 25th, plenty of time to adjust your schedules. If there's enough interest we can reserve a room at a local watering hole and draft as a group.
Thank you all for making this league everything it can be. Enjoy the NFL postseason!
