Hello everyone and welcome to Week 1 of the 2025 SEWIFFL Season. Our tenth season is bound to have it all: wins, losses, blood, sweat and tears. I'm looking forward to a fun year(and hopefully a reason to get the Superb Owl trophy back in my possession for an entire offseason.) Beyond my selfish need for victory I'm hoping everyone continues to have fun playing in this league. I know its not a super in depth full dynasty, but I think there's something to be said for a classic keeper league.
A couple notes about this week: Obviously the season kicks off Thursday night, but don't forget(not that I think anyone would) that there is a Friday night game this week with the Packers taking on the Eagles from Brazil. My entire knowledge of Brazil is from MMA and the Fast and the Furious franchise.
So on that note, I'm still paying for ChatGPT and I'm going to take advantage of my robot worker by asking it to compare each team to a movie. So grab your popcorn and enjoy SEWIFFL Movie Night.
ChatGPT: A relentless, action-packed thriller where the hero (Lamar Jackson) takes on the world, showcasing explosive plays and high-stakes drama.
Commish's Take: First off its not a Christmas movie. Secondly, Lamar is going to provide a safe floor for Randy's squad all year. I'm very interested to see how Randy's rookies perform. Marvin Harrison Jr and Brock Bowers both have massive upside, but will that upside hit this year?
ChatGPT: "A heist film with a perfectly balanced team, where everyone plays their role smoothly, just like this well-rounded fantasy lineup. "
Commish's Take: Great movie, I don't care how bad Don Cheadle's accent is. Its stupid fun. I think the same thing when I look at my lineup. Stupid fun. CeeDee Lamb signing a deal certainly isn't a heist, but he'll have to perform to make fans believe that.
Chat GPT: "A gritty, battle-hardened squad led by a fierce leader (Josh Allen), ready to take on all challengers with relentless determination."
Commish's Take: Josh Allen is going to have to do some heavy lifting this year, both for fantasy teams and for Buffalo Bills fanatics. He's lost weapons but he's still a very dangerous QB. I'm very curious to see how Garrett Wilson improves with a real QB throwing him the ball.
ChatGPT: "A team built around a superstar (Joe Burrow) who thrives under pressure, with a dark, brooding intensity and the capability to pull off something spectacular."
Commish's Take: I was really hoping ChatGPT would make the Eminem connection with Joey B's new haircut, but it is what it is. The Burrow-Chase stack is going to be deadly...as long as Ja'Marr is on the field. A lengthy holdout could spell disaster for Andy.
ChatGPT: "A team of unconventional but highly skilled players (like Jalen Hurts and Bijan Robinson) who are ready to execute a well-thought-out plan, often surprising their opponents with creative plays."
Commish's Take: What a modern reference from the robot...that said, Hurts will have a bit of work now that Jason Kelce isn't in town. Bijan has a real shot at ended as RB1. And being that this is Sam's team I'm sure there's some guy I've never heard of that ends up top 12 at his position.
ChatGPT: "A powerhouse team led by a superstar (Patrick Mahomes) with a lineup full of heavy hitters (like Saquon Barkley and Joe Mixon) that can come together to deliver epic performances when it counts the most."
Commish's Take: Honestly the movie doesn't much matter because Ryan doesn't watch them. Mahomes makes for a good football Iron-Man. Saquon seems to be rejuvinated now that he's out of New (Jersey) York. I also like George Pickens to have a break out season.
ChatGPT: "A team with a lot of speed and explosiveness (like Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce), built for quick strikes and high-paced action, always ready to go full throttle."
Commish's Take: Two Fast and Furious mentions in one article? I'm here for it. Love the two guys mentioned, I think Kelce is poised for one more big season before he starts to fall off hard. A little sneaky play is Nabers, someone has to catch the ball for NYG and its gonna be Nabers force fed.
ChatGPT: "A gritty, underdog squad (led by Anthony Richardson) with the potential to take some big hits and keep fighting back, relying on resilience and heart to go the distance."
Commish's Take: I've fully bought into Cooper Kupp being back to his previous form. And he'll have Puka to keep full attention away from him. Jonathan Taylor has to have a healthy season at some point, he and Richardson will benefit from good seasons from one another.
ChatGPT: "A relentless and powerful team with a standout player (Derrick Henry) who can single-handedly take down opponents, much like the unstoppable force of John Wick."
Commish's Take: I'm not sure I quite make the comparison of Derrick Henry to John Wick, but Henry is a monster. I'm very interested to see how his game will be changed with a better QB and offense overall. I'm jealous of having Mike Evans. Guy is ageless and will be a WR1 again this year.
ChatGPT: "A team full of potential and mind-bending talent (like Justin Jefferson), with the ability to pull off incredible plays and defy expectations, just like Neo dodging bullets in slow motion."
Commish's Take: Full disclosure I still haven't seen The Matrix. Jettas will be interesting playing with a bad QB. He's talented enough to make anyone look good under center, but its a heavy lift. Puka might be back to 2nd chair, but he's still going to put up big numbers this season.
ChatGPT: "A versatile and well-rounded team led by a player (Christian McCaffrey) who can do it all, just like Jason Bourne, who’s always ready to adapt and overcome any situation. "
Commish's Take: CMC has miles on him, he's take a turn for the worse at some point, but I don't think it'll be this year. CJ Stroud has a lot of weapons to sling the ball to in Houston this year. I'm very curious to see how that hierarchy sorts itself out.
ChatGPT: "A high-octane team that’s built for explosive performances (like Raheem Mostert and Austin Ekeler), always on the edge and ready to blow up at any moment, much like the non-stop action in the movie."
Commish's Take: I'm not bought into Ekeler this year. Maybe he can find the magic again, but he was one of the biggest busts of fantasy football history last year. We'll see how quickly Rome Odunze grows with Caleb Williams in Chicago.
There you have it. Not exactly the most exotic movie suggestions from ChatGPT, but a few titles I'd forgotten about that I'm going to add to my "To Watch" list. Best of luck this week!
