The yearly dark age is over! We've survived the doldrums of the dead period between February until early September. The air is becoming crisp, the leaves are preparing to change color, Pumpkin Spice Lattes are back at Starbucks and that can only mean one thing....FOOTBALL IS BACK! This will be a post-draft, preseason write up on each team. Mid week next week you can check back for the week 1 preview.
Chris(Rated Eks): Sometimes earning the 1st overall pick is seen as a "third keeper" this year it can be seen as "Christian McCaffrey falling right into your lap." A huge get for Chris as he very well could have RB 1, RB2(McCaffery and Ekeler) and a sneaky 14th round keeper with potential for QB1 in Justin Fields. Love it Pick: Courtland Sutton at 9.1. Sutton suffered from Russel Wilson's poor play last year, but if RW bounces back, Sutton should have a big year. Hmmm Pick: Adam Thielen: 11.1. I'm not convinced Thielen has anything left to give, he's football old and doesn't have Justin Jefferson to take the defensive attention anymore.
Ryan(Team Cotch): Ryan took the consensus best QB in football with his 4th round keeper. A heck of a cornerstone that only got better when he was stacked with 1st round pick Travis Kelce. Provided they stay healthy the Kansas City combo could very well lead Ryan deep into the playoffs. I think Aaron Jones has at least one more top tier year in him and I also believe that James Connor's nose for the endzone will keep him as a useful fantasy asset. Love it Pick: Travis Kelce(1.2) he could be a league winner, especially being stacked with Mahomes. Hmmm Pick: Skyy Moore. I'm not sold on Moore personally and the triple stack has the potential to blow up in Ryan's face if there's a rough week or bad weather.
Ben(Pinche Bendejo): Ben bolstered his already strong WR core by taking Tyreek Hill with the 3rd pick of the 2023 SEWIFFL Draft. He followed that up with a trio of RBs in rounds 2-4, Ken Walker, Travis Etienne and Cam Akers, before his keepers hit in 5 and 6. Ben has a couple of low risk, high reward rookies in Dalton Kincaid and JSN. Love it pick: Tyreek Hill, he's got the potential to be WR1 overall. He's been one of, if not the most consistent fantasy players with a sky high floor. Hmmm Pick: Odell Beckham Jr. Does OBJ have anything left in the tank? Can he still contribute at a high level?
Sam(Trash Pandas): Pre-Draft Sam was thrilled knowing he was going to get one of CMC, Kelce, Hill or Bijan. He ended up with the rookie with the weight of the fantasy football world on his shoulders. RBs did not fall favorably for Sam after the 1st. He had the chance to draft Cam Akers in the 4th but chose Darren Waller instead and wasn't able to track down a 2nd RB until Zach Charbonnet in the 7th. If the youth performs Sam has a chance. Love it Pick: Keenan Allen(2.9) He's somehow still underrated even though all he does is perform. Hmmm Pick: the 3 rookie RBs. Its what fell to Sam, so a lot of his choices were made for him, but he'll need some breaks to go his way for them to have big contributions this season.
Bill(Bart was the Best): Bill has a couple of keepers that aren't the sexiest of names, but I think are going to provide some sneaky fantasy value. The Bills clearly believe in James Cook and Christian Watson seems like a lock to be Jordan Love's favorite target in Green Bay. Nick Chubb becomes BwtB's bell-cow for 2023. Even when Chubb had a down game last year his lowest score was still 8 points. He's a guy that will win you multiple matchups and lose you zero on his own. Following that with physical freak DK Metcalf and cool Joey B, Bill has a solid core. Love it Pick: Diontae Johnson(4.8) I'm high on Diontae this season. He's a target machine and I think Kenny Pickett makes a leap this season. Hmmm Pick: Dallas Goedert and this is strictly because of my own ignorance of him. If he stays healthy I'll be here to eat crow in December!
George(Powderhoundmals): In speaking with Jorge after the draft the conclusion was taking the side of getting deep into the draft is a crapshoot. Rolling the dice on young talent is the way Gamblin' George is going to handle this season and it very well could work out for him. The youth on his roster includes: Zay Flowers, Jordan Love, Romeo Doubs, De'Von Archane, and Jonathan Mingo. If even 2 of those hit George could be on a rocket ship to the fantasy football moon. Love it pick: Keeping Trevor Lawrence(13.6) is a big brain move that I believe will allow George to do his best RonCo impression at QB "Set it and forget it!" Hmmm pick: Dawson Knox(8.7) Knox has competition from NFL 1st rounder Dalton Kincaid. That said Knox was a top 10 TE last year, but that might say as much about the position as it does the player.
Andy(Joe Buck Yourself): Andy has arguably the strongest keepers this season, Ja'Marr Chase and Tony Pollard. He went ahead and stacked his team with additional firepower with AJ Brown(1.7) who should waltz into a top 5 WR finish if he stays on the field this year. Tony Pollard is a fantasy darling, taking over for Zeke in Dallas and should hit the ground running. I personally think there's a solid chance that Pollard ends up as a top 3 RB this season. Alexander Mattison has proven himself in filling in for Dalvin Cook in the past, it will be interesting to see how he handles a full season of Vikings football. Love it Pick: Mark Andrews(2.6) while he likely won't be TE1, I fully expect him to be a TE2 by a long gap. Positional advantage is huge and Andrews provides that as long as he stays healthy. Hmmm Pick: Treylon Burks(8.6) I'm not sure who the real Treylon is, but he now as Nuk opposite him and that should make life easier for the 2nd year man.
Dan(JJ & JJ, Partners in Yards): Questionable team name aside, I knew coming in that keeping Justin Jefferson and Garrett Wilson meant I had some freedom early on. That resulted in Josh Jacobs, RB1 in 2022 and hot shot rookie Jahmyr Gibbs in round 2. The RB room in New York will be very interesting to watch develop. How big of a slice of the pie will Dalvin Cook be able to demand, and will that help keep Breece Hall on the field with A. A. Ron, Rod-gers? Love it Pick: Breece Hall(3.8), Hall had a incredible start to his career before his injury cut his season short, if he can hit that stride again he'll be a 1st rounder next season. Hmmmm Pick: Jameson Williams(11.8) Jamo has questionable betting strategy and taking a player that is going to just take up a bench spot for the first month and a half...its gonna be rough.
James(Dak Picks): The only person to keep just one player this season, but I'm here for it. Davante Adams is being slept on despite having a ridiculous season last year....and the year before that...and the year before that...and the year before that...and the year before that...you get the picture. James kept things balanced in the first 5 rounds, back and forth between WR and RB. Najee Harris is a work horse and should continue to be a safe floor player that you can put in your lineup week 1 and not change until his bye week. Miles Sanders is going to get a lot of attention given the youth at QB in Carolina. Love it Pick: Terry McLaurin(3.9) Scary Terry has been consistent, 1000 yards in each of the last 3 seasons. I'm excited to see if he can make the leap to the next level with questionable QB play in the nation's Capital. Hmmmm Pick: Michael Thomas. As a card carrying member of the "burnt by Michael Thomas" club(we meet on Fridays at the VFW, please bring a dip to pass) I'm not convinced MT will stay on the field, but if he does he should be a solid WR2 for James.
Jeff(The Bearded Clams): Jeff is set at QB. Barring disaster he'll only have to move Josh Allen once during the season. At face value the trio of CeeDee Lamb, Jonathan Taylor and George Kittle screams playoff run, but a little deeper dive might tell you the opposite. CeeDee is without a doubt a stud and I expect him to perform, Taylor is out for the first 4 weeks at least and George Kittle is always hurt and always seems to be on the verge of falling completely off. I'll be very curious to see how Kittle performs this season. Love it Pick: Dameon Pierce(4.3) I'm a believer in Pierce, I think he'll have a bigger year than last year despite being on what is probably going to be a bad Houston squad. Hmmmm Pick: D'Andre Swift. The Eagles seem to be ripe for running back by committee, aka the fantasy football death sentence.
Zach(Frank's Spank Bank): When I first started typing this up Cooper Kupp was ready to put up another incredible fantasy season. Just a few hours later and now Jimmy Buffet is dead and Cooper Kupp's hamstring has him in some hot water for the beginning of the season. No such issues for Tee Higgins, however. He might be a WR2 on the Bengals, but he's got league winning potential in fantasy land. Aaron Rodgers should provide real potential for a hot start at QB. Love it Pick: Anthony Richardson(9.11) Rodgers might provide the hot start, but Richardson could very well win the league for Zach. Hmmm Pick: DeAndrew Hopkins. I'm not convinced Nuk has A) a whole season in him and B) That he's still the same big play threat. I hope I'm wrong because peak Hopkins was so much fun to watch.
Randy(Pack Attack): Randy's first 5 players on his draft list are the types of players everyone wants to get on their team. Amon-Ra St. Brown should be dangerous again for the Lions and Saquon Barkley proved a lot of people wrong(and right) last season. I'm personally incredibly jealous of being able to roster Tyler Lockett. I had him targeted and was crossing my toes and fingers he'd make it back to me in the 4th. Love it Pick: Evan Engram(7.12) Engram was really, really good last year. TEs were really bad overall, but Engram broke out and was rewarded with a new contract. Hmmm Pick: Isiah Pacheco. The Chiefs backfield always seems like a confusing mess of "Who is Andy Reid favoring this week?"
I think that wraps things up for the 2023 Preseason Preview. I hope you enjoyed. Best of luck this season, everyone. I think we're in for a fantastic season.
