Hello everyone, we've made it through an exciting Week 1. What a week it was. The Packers looked great, JJ McCarthy's alter facepainted ego showed up in the second half and the Bills and the Ravens played an absolute BANGER on Sunday Night. I'm still not entirely certain how these weekly write ups are going to go, I do know I'm trying not to rely entirely on ChatGPT to handle them. I've also been working on utilizing Excel to track SEWIFFL stats for the season, so you can expect a bit more in depth info about league stat leaders, etc, throughout the season. Given all that, let's jump into an actual manually, human typed, review of the Week 1 SEWIFFL Matchups.
What struck me about this matchup is the genuinly flip flop of results versus expectations for the starting quarterbacks for these teams. Joe Burrow(and the entire Bengals offense for that matter) looked...not great. Joey B ended up with just 8.82 points and 113 passing yards. Justin Fields, on the other hand, went head to head against Aaron Rodgers in a barn burner(imagine thinking this would be a non-sarcastic sentence in 2025) ending with 218 yards through the air, 48 on the ground and 3 total TDs. Bijian Robinson did what you expect out of top tier RB, but Sam's biggest risk was starting Travis Etienne and it paid off in a big way. Etienne had a massive game, 143 yards rushing for 17.1 total fantasy points. Zach's veteran WRs let him down, just 10.8 points between Terry McLaurin and Davante Adams. If its any consolation, it looks like Zach played his optimal lineup. Some scary food for though, Sam had Keon Coleman, who was a popular target for Josh Allen, as well as BILLLLLLLL Croskey on his bench. Bill looks like he's going to get more touches as the season moves on.
At a quick glance it looks like Josh Allen really carried Joe Buck Yourself through this game. That Sunday Night Football shootout benefitted fantasy owners everywhere. Josh Allen ended with nearly 400 yards passing and 4 total TDs. I don't think Andy is ever expecting huge game winning performances out of his starting RB duo of Chase Brown and James Conner, but if they both consistently put up 12+ points a game, Andy will be a force in the league. His team only gets more dangerous as JaMarr Chase won't be at 2 catches for 26 yards much longer, possibly getting his worst game of the year out of the way in week 1. Poff's performers were decent overall, but we've all come to expect more from Mike Evans, perhaps Father Time has finally come for a visit with our ageless wonder? Jaylen Waddle, and all of the Dolphins, looked lost on the field. Things could get VERY ugly in Miami this season. And once again, Mark Andrew victimizes fantasy owners.
George, to his credit, had the 3rd most fantasy points in the league this week despite picking the "worst" of his 3 QB options. Jordan Love had a very efficient NFL game, but that only leads to a middling fantasy performance. Both Caleb Williams and Justin Herbert had huge fantasy games in their respective matchups. The oft-questioned Zay Flowers had a HUGE game, 143 yards and a TD for 24.6 fantasy points. Credit where credit is due to George on always being a Zay Flowers truther. I think Jim would be the first one to tell you that he's in a survive til the weapons are back mentality right now. Expected performers Quinshon Judkins, Chris Godwin and Brandon Aiyuk were all unavailable for Big Nix Energy this week. In the meantime Omarion Hampton had a decent NFL rookie debut, 50 yards and a couple catches, but Nico Collins had a terrible game and Cooper Kupp might be cooked. Justin Jefferson was invisible until JJ McCarthy remembered he existed in the 4th quarter.
Derrick Henry is not human. I'm continually baffled that he isn't playing linebacker, because he makes everyone else on the field look small and slow. The only negative for Henry was his lost fumble that turned the tide against the Ravens, but he still put up 28.7 fantasy points. Breece Hall is making the emergence of Braelon Allen really tough on the Jets coaching staff. He had 107 yards on 5+ per carry. Tee Higgins, like the rest of the Bengals, was ass. I don't expect him to be this low much longer. The biggest question for Chris is how long is All-World TE George Kittle going to be out for? If its serious it could lead to a month long IR stint. The Salty Spitoon? More like Weenie Hut Jr's. Bo Nix might suck again. The Packers defense made the high powered Lion's offense look average at best. Looking at the bench, Keenan Allen might be another ageless wonder, all he does is catch the ball efficiently and usually for a TD.
Bill's youth movement showed up this week and made up for Xavier Worthy getting injured immediately on Friday Night. Emeka Egbuka exploded onto the NFL scene with 4 catches and 2 TDs, Jaxon Smith-Njigba had 124 yards and appears to be picking up where he left off last year. Naturally Jayden Daniels had a big game, that very well could've been much bigger, but he still had over 20 fantasy points. We'll see how he does with Micah Parsons trying to track him down on Thursday Night. Ben had to have been feeling great after TNF, he had 43 points between Jalen Hurts and Javonte Williams. That's as good as things got in this matchup though as his next biggest performance was Travis Kelce bailing his fantasy owners out with a long TD catch and run.
It was a tale of high performers making up for underperformers on Pack Attack. Lamar Jackson everything he could on Sunday Night. 200 yards passing, 70 rushing and 4 total TDs. Randy also got a big game out of Deebo Samuel, who might be a high value weapon with Washington, benefitting from teams having to focus on Scary Terry. Amon-Ra St. Brown was just ok. He couldn't break a big play and ended with just 4 catches for 45 yards for the Lions. Dylan Sampson might have a very safe floor for Cleveland, even when the backfield is crowded, because he is a threat in the passing game, ending with 8 catches for 64 yards. Cotch was victimized by AJ Brown, Evan Engram(who is now injured), a meh debut from Matthew Golden and a just OK game from Tony Pollard. He'll have some changes to make next week, as I suspect Michael Pittman may have earned himself a start, totally 80 yards and a TD.

I'm also going to try and do a completely pointless SEWIFFL Player of the Week. There's no real set criteria, it's going to be done off of situation and vibes, for the most part.
With that, the 2025 Week 1 SEWIFFL Player of the Week is......Justin Fields, QB, Muddy Bananas. Did the Bananas lose? They absolutely did. But had Zach made the, reasonable, decision to start CJ Stroud over Justin Fields we would've been looking at 6 for 6 blowouts this week. Fields made the game close. Congrats Zach. for your efforts you get absolutely nothing but pride.
Week 1 is always an easy one, the highest scorer takes home the bonus. Congrats to Andy for winning the Hot Start Bonus with 136.26 points.
Week 2 I'm going to steal one from Sam's league. The Blackjack bonus, the player with the score closest to 21.00 without going over takes home the bonus. In the case of a tie the next closest player from each team will be scored.
That's all folks, a completely human written Week 2 write up. I'm not sure every week will be this way, but I enjoyed it, I hope you do too!
